Ryan Shaffer

Junior High Director

I have been born and raised a "Chicoan." My father was a minister of music here at Neighborhood and shortly after I was born we moved to Arizona. I've been a pastor's kid my entire life and loved every minute of it. Serving in the church is something I've done ever since I could come to church with my dad. Twelve years later, we came back to Neighborhood and I began to know Neighborhood as my own church family. I've grew up attending junior high ministry and in high school participating and student-leading in youth group and the church. Since 2005 I've volunteered with JAM, our Jr. High ministry and love working with the students.

In October 2008, I went on a DTS (Discipleship Training School) with YWAM (Youth with A Mission) and experienced a whole new world, literally. I lived in Newcastle, Australia for three months of training and heard speakers from around the world share about the foundations of the Christian relationship. After that, I spent the next two months doing missions and outreach work in Mt. Isa, Australia and Davao City, Philippines. It was truly a life-changing experience and gave me a new perspective of the world and my faith. I came home realizing the true need for Jesus in the nations of our world.

In March 2009, I returned to Chico, became Director of junior high ministry in July, and have been loving every minute of it. I love encouraging kids to their fullest potential and challenging them to be more than our culture would pigeon hole them to be. I desire to help junior high students see who God has created them to be and discover the beauty and strength in finding their identity in Christ rather than the world.
